Only a few days left!

So Radical Vulvas is this Friday the 14th and we are wonderfully excited to see what Ottawa has to offer this summer. We have all of our performers lined up and we have everything from performance art to spoken word poetry to some nice acoustic guitar :D

Here is the event poster which we are very lucky to have designed by Irene Lepiesza! More of her visual artwork is going to be displayed at RadVulvs, so if you'd like to see more then Mercury Lounge will be the place to be on Friday night!

Looking forward to seeing everyone Friday night - bring your radical thoughts and positive energy and it will be a blast.

Peace out 'till then,

-Alison and Hannah

RADVULVS OTTAWA 09 IS UNDERWAY!

Alright everyone, so Radical Vulvas Ottawa is back this summer and raring to go! This year's night of epic innovation, communication and creativity will be held on August 14th at the one and only Mercury Lounge in the Byward Market.

But right now, we are looking for performers and artists! Are you interested in performing in contributing to this summer's Ottawa RadVulvs? If so, please email radicalvulvasottawa@gmail.com - we would love to have you!

Here is some of the information written in the performer call-out last year; we are looking for the same type of submissions as last time, as it was a great success!

"The Radical Vulvas" originated in 2007 in Halifax, at the Dalhousie University Women's Centre. It is a community response to the vagina monologues: a play that started a necessary dialogue that should absolutely not end there, or be limited only to a certain kind of woman, or limit itself to women at all. The Radical Vulvas aims to be a multi-disciplinary art and discussion forum, enabling further discourse about women's experiences and gender issues.

As such, we are inviting anyone and everyone to express themselves, through any medium (song, monologue/dialogue, poetry, visual art, dance, performance, etc) on the subject of women. As a "write your own" production, the Radical Vulvas is whatever the community makes of it. Since its original performance in Halifax, it has been performed in Victoria, BC, Montreal, and here in Ottawa last summer as well! We hope that this summer's incarnation will be an empowering evening of respectful communication and a celebration of women everywhere.

The event itself will take place on August 14th at 7:00 PM, at Mercury Lounge in the Byward Market. If you would like to perform or participate, that's wonderful! We are accepting submissions by email until July 30th. Please send either a copy of your text or a sound recording to radicalvulvasottawa@gmail.com. If your piece does not include text, or if the bulk of the piece is made up of some other element, a description of your piece and what you are communicating would be ideal. You can perform original work or someone else's work, or they can perform yours; whatever makes you feel comfortable. We would also like to include the visual arts at the Ottawa show, and are looking to display paintings, photography, etc.

Performance submissions should be under ten minutes. If you are interested in performing but are unable to meet the July 30th deadline, please contact us anyway, as soon as possible, so we can do our best to include you! Questions or comments can also be directed to us via email.

Thank you!

Volunteers Needed/Wanted

Hey Vulvinators!

The show is just days away, and we are neck deep is organization. On Sunday we are going to need a bunch of volunteers who may want to work the door, help set up or clean up and/or bring peanut free snacks. If you are interested just e-mail us at radicalvulvasottawa@gmail.com and we'll let you know all the details.

We've got 13 confirmed performers (including our very own Andrea deBruijn) and are slowly pulling together all the pieces of the show so that it will be amazing. This Saturday we'll be at Dykes with Mykes to promote our show, which we are really looking forward to.

There are so many exciting things happening in the city, it's going to be an awesome weekend of love/compassion/respect and some damn sexy art.

See you all soon,

Funding and Performers

Heyyyyyyyy
Big news! Today we picked up some funding from OPIRG, which also funded the Montreal show. This is awesome, because our pocket money was running out, so we're so grateful for their help and support. They are going to help us advertise too with various University of Ottawa Women`s groups.

We`ve also been slowly collecting submissions (radicalvulvasottawa@gmail.com) and so far, have 8 performers all doing different forms of art. This number is sweeet, but we`re still searching for anyone else out there who may be interested. Forget the July 25th, deadline, send us something before August 5 or 6 and we`ll count you in. We don`t want to rush whatever art is in the making so let us know what would be a good day for you, and we`ll work around it.

Tell your friends, tell your family, it`s going to be amazing.
